About

Although I was born into a creative art environment being a son of an artist, growing up I was not interested in art. Perhaps it was because my father surrounded the house with paintings that my natural rebellious personality pushed it away because of the same reason. Despite having my father's camera around me through out my life, I never thought a day would come that I would be so passionate photography and make a living out of it.

It wasn't until the 2011 events in Libya where I discovered how powerful and expressive visuals can be, sometimes even stronger and have a much deeper impact than words.  At that point, I found out that photographs can deliver what I wish to say and what I want to show people at the same time.  It give me a journalistic sense to show what was going on in an easy safer way than words.

These were some of my first photographs that I took using my phone in 2011 when I went to Tunisia to volunteer for Remada camp that gave shelter to Libyans who fled their cities and homes in Libya during the revolution.

After I went back to Tripoli in August 2011, the first thing I did was pick up my father's old camera and document everything that was taking place around me. Of which half were either out of focus or over exposured.

That didn't stop me, I taught myself how to get improve and become better and managed to do so. Still, I was lost to figure out what I really wanted to show through the camera I was holding. I participated in a World Press Photo workshop in Holland and later Noor program camp in Tripoli which was about photojournalism. That taught me a lot about what I wanted and what I loved to do. I'm still in the beginning of this path and still have so many stories to tell and shall visually tell them as time goes by.  I sometimes don't consider myself a photographer but an activist with a camera.

I'm a freelance photographer based in London.  I have work that was published on le mode, Monocle,Vrij Nederland  and the Sunday times. I was also selected to participate in the 2014 World Press Photo the stories of the change.

apart from doing what I am passionate about, I'm currently doing my MA in Security, Peace-building and Diplomacy at Loughborough University London.
